9/10 Colossyan: Text to Video with Human Avatars
Summary: Colossyan Creator is an AI video generator platform that simplifies video creation for many uses, offering features such as AI avatars, auto-translation, and scenario-based learning templates. In this review, I'll walk you through every detail of Colossyan so that you can check if it is a valid option for your needs. Pricing: From $19/month. Free trial with no credit card. |
In this Colossyan review I explore this cutting-edge text-to-video solution's features, functionalities, and performance, examining its potential to revolutionize content creation for professionals and novices alike. Could this text-to-video platform actually deliver on its promises?
I spent hours (honestly, probably too many) testing every single feature Colossyan offers. From their diverse avatar selection to their customizable templates and media library, I wanted to see if this tool could genuinely create videos that don't scream "I was made by AI!"
But don't just take my word for it. I strongly recommend signing up for their free trial to experience it yourself. Your needs might differ from mine, and what works for my content might not work for yours.

What is Colossyan?
This UK-based company was created in 2018 to detect AI-generated content. Soon the development team noticed that their technology could be used for video content creation.
With a text-to-video solution that could also help to localize content with low costs, they focused on improving engineering and AI research to offer one of the best products in its class. They recently raised a $5M Series A round to enhance further development.
Colossyan claims 1000+ customers around the globe and features on its webpage many first-class clients, like BMW, Festo, Basf, Procter & Gamble, Hewlett Packard, and more.
Check how Colossyan works in this video:

The core objective of Colossyan is to empower users to transform written content, such as articles, blog posts, or scripts, into engaging video content using human avatars. By leveraging state-of-the-art AI models and deep learning techniques, the platform endeavors to automate the video creation process, eliminating the need for complex editing software, expensive equipment, and extensive video production knowledge.
You can get Colossyan for personal use, but it is aimed at businesses and enterprise users. Most features are only available on Enterprise Plan only.
What sets Colossyan apart from traditional video creation?
Turn text into videos automatically
Make a video from a PowerPoint presentation, PDF file, or text script.
Create realistic content with a low budget
You can create videos with multiple actors and tweak facial expressions, tone of voice, and aging.
Make professional-looking videos in minutes
Colossyan has complete features to create full-quality videos in minutes, not months.
Excellent avatar quality and lip-synching
Colossyan avatars are one of the best you can find, and in our testing, lip-synching was awesome.
Full collaboration features
You can create a team and allow members to access a branding kit, share, edit, view, and comment on your videos. Colossyan is the only platform that offers this feature.
Getting started with Colossyan
Since Colossyan is cloud-based, there's nothing to download – a big plus for my already cluttered MacBook. Like most modern software, it follows a SaaS model (you must pay a monthly fee to use the system)
Using Colossyan, you can create videos for
- Learning and courses videos
- Video presentations.
- Corporate communications.
- Product demos and reviews
- Training videos.
- How-to guides.
- Onboarding videos.
- Marketing videos.
- Explainer videos.
This is just scratching the surface – you could use it for virtually any video type that benefits from a human presenter. But wait; this is not meant to replace Filmora, Da Vinci or Adobe creation suite. These are high-end platforms with many professional features that Colossyan doesn´t have because it is intended for a different use.
Colossyan main features
Colossyan boasts an impressive feature list, though I found some more useful than others:
-
- 70+ languages: I tested English and Spanish (the only two I know)– all worked well, though pronunciation wasn't perfect in non-English languages.
- 150+ diverse avatars: The diversity is genuinely impressive, though I found myself using the same 5-6 favorites.
- Custom avatars: Available on higher plans, but I didn't get to test this.
- Interactive videos: A standout feature that competitors often lack.
- 30 pre-made templates: Honestly, this is where they fall short compared to Synthesia and HeyGen.
- Royalty-free assets: Decent selection, though I often uploaded my own.
- Voice cloning: Works in up to 28 languages – I tested English and Spanish with good results.
- Avatar expressions and aging: This is unique to Colossyan and adds a layer of realism.
- SCORM export: Essential for e-learning creators, though only on Enterprise plans.
- Auto-translation: Works in 70+ languages – I tested a few and was impressed.
- Side view avatars: Another Colossyan exclusive that adds dimension.
- ChatGPT integration: Surprisingly useful for creating outlines and scripts. And it works really well in my experience.
Please note that some of these features are only available on higher plans.
My Video Creation Process with Colossyan
When I first logged in, I was greeted by a welcome video from founder Dominik Kovacs offering a 6-steps guided tour. Nice touch, though I'm the type who usually skips tutorials (sometimes to my detriment).
The template selection was my first disappointment – only 30 templates compared to the 60+ that Synthesia or 75+ that HeyGen offer. That said, the templates available were well-designed and customizable.
Choosing an avatar was straightforward, with options to show full body or head only, position them on screen, adjust their emotional expression, and size. One limitation I noticed: unlike Elai, there's no option for videos without avatars.
There is no option for a video without an avatar, an exciting possibility that other platforms like Elai offer.
Backgrounds are easily customizable – you can choose from royalty-free images/videos from Pexels or upload your own. I appreciated the ability to add shapes, text, icons, and music to any slide. The shapes are surprisingly versatile – you can create basic infographics with them, something I haven't seen in other platforms.
What's missing? GIFs and stickers, which both Synthesia and Elai offer. Not a dealbreaker for me, but worth noting if your content style relies on these elements.
I was impressed by the built-in screen recorder – perfect for tutorial videos where you need to show your own screen alongside the avatar explanation.
The script entry process offers several options: narration, conversation (requiring at least two avatars), or uploading your own audio. This flexibility is very ggod, though I mostly stuck with the text-to-speech option.
Here's where Colossyan really shines: its AI assistant. It helps correct grammar, specify tone, set audience, adjust video length, and even brainstorm ideas. The ChatGPT integration is genuinely one of the best I've seen in this type of platform.
The recently launched AI Image Generator is another standout feature. I described what I wanted ("modern office with plants and natural light"), and it created unique backgrounds that looked surprisingly good. Not Midjourney quality, but definitely usable.

Language and voice management is another area where Colossyan excels. With 170+ voices that can be filtered by accent, tone, age, scenario, and emotion, the customization options are extensive. You can even modify phonetic spelling for accurate pronunciation – crucial for brand names or technical terms.
A crucial feature of Colossyan is automatic translation, which works in 29 languages. This characteristic is unavailable in multi-avatar scenes and only for enterprise users.
After choosing a template, you can resize the screen aspect ratio, saving time by avoiding starting a new video. This is the only platform where you can choose a custom screen size.
When I am done, I click preview to check the video before rendering. Like other similar platforms, I can preview the video in this stage, but the avatar will stay fixed and with no lip-synching.
Some minutes later, the final video will show on my dashboard in the "generated videos" tab. In my tests, a 1-minute video took 7 minutes to render, a below-average ratio for this kind of software.
Colossyan pricing
Colossyan offers a free plan with 5 minutes of video per month, 2 avatars, 70+ languages, 3 scenes per video, and 720p resolution. It's enough to test the platform, but not much more.
Their basic plan costs $19/month, billed annually. It includes 10 monthly video minutes, all human avatars, up to 5 scenes per video, and full HD resolution. This is not the best pricing out there since, for $23/month, Elai offers 80+ avatars and 15 minutes of video per month. This difference also reflects in higher plans.

Colossyan integrations
This is one area where I think Colossyan falls short. Their integrations are primarily focused on e-learning and interactive videos:
- YouTube
- PowerPoint
- Interactive video platforms (VideoAsk, Tolstoy)
- Education/e-learning (SCORM, UQualio, Docebo, EasyGenerator, 360Learning, Articulate)
The SCORM integration (Enterprise Plan only) is particularly valuable for e-learning creators, allowing synchronization with most LMS platforms.
What's missing? I'd love to see integrations with Thinkific, Descript, Udemy, and especially Zapier for workflow automation. This limitation could be a dealbreaker depending on your tech stack.
What sets Colossyan apart from its competitors
- Up to 4 actors in a scene
Currently, Colossyan is the only platform I've found that allows up to 4 actors in a single scene. This opens up possibilities for dialogue, panel discussions, and more dynamic content.
- Side view avatars
This seemingly small feature makes a big difference in creating natural-looking interactions. I created a mock interview that actually looked... well, not completely AI-generated.

- Regular Updates
Colossyan rolls out updates on a regular basis. This suggests an active development team committed to improvement – always a good sign for SaaS products.
- Avatar Emotions and Aging
The ability to make avatars look older/younger and express emotions (sad, happy, serious, neutral, smiling) adds a layer of realism that most competitors lack. Synthesia offers some basic gestures, but Colossyan's implementation feels more natural.
- ChatGPT Integration
I've mentioned this before, but it bears repeating – the AI writing assistant is exceptionally well-implemented and genuinely useful for content creation.
- SCORM video export
For e-learning creators, this feature alone might justify choosing Colossyan over alternatives. Being able to export videos in SCORM format for LMS compatibility is a significant time-saver.
- Flexible Pricing Plans
Colossyan offers many pricing plans, from free options to 320 monthly video minutes. Enterprise plans are available for big companies and agencies with specific needs.
What I would like Colossyan to improve
No tool is perfect, and Colossyan has several areas where I hope to see improvement:
- Better Onboarding and Tutorials
While Colossyan provides basic support articles, their video tutorials are limited. Synthesia sets the gold standard here with comprehensive video tutorials, an academy, and an extensive partner network.
- More Integrations
As mentioned earlier, the limited integration options could be a significant drawback depending on your workflow. A Zapier integration would solve many of these issues.
- Expanded Avatar and Template Libraries
The quality is there, but the quantity isn't. Colossyan needs to expand their stock avatars and pre-made templates to match competitors' offerings.
Colossyan reviews and support
I found 187 reviews with an impressive rating of 4.7/5 on G2, which indicates strong client satisfaction. Since G2 is a leading website for software reviews, it's worthwhile to check what people say in their assessments. Here are the results as of February 2025
Colossyan Creator Pros and Cons
Pros
Cons
Ease of use is the more important feature for customers, but avatar limitations get attention too.
Colossyan has a Discord community of 670+ members, but I couldn't test how active it is. You can access a chat window in the dashboard with pre-made questions to read.
You can also join a Facebook group to share experiences, ideas, and support.
But if you need real help, you'd better put your anxiety aside. My chat window showed a nice "We will be back online tomorrow" message.
Best three Colossyan alternatives
Colossyan is a solid option for AI video generation with human avatars. In case you are not sure it is not your best fit, I am listing below the top three alternatives today in the market:
Synthesia

Synthesia's avatars look natural and polished, and pricing starts at $22/10 minutes.
Synthesia Pros and Cons

- Large selection of avatars and templates.
- Highly polished and professional-looking avatars.
- Extensive onboarding resources.
- Cons:
- Lacks avatar emotions, aging, and gestures.
- No free plan.
- Slightly higher pricing for fewer customization options.

Elai
Elai offers similar features to create a video with human avatars, although it lacks emotions, aging, and avatar gestures.
With 80+ avatars, automatic translations, and valuable integrations, it looks like an attractive Colossyan alternative. Pricing starts at $23/month with 15 minutes of video/month.
Elai Pros and Cons
- Pros:
- Affordable pricing with multilingual support.
- Integrates with Zapier for workflow automation.
- Interactive videos.
- Cons:
- Avatars are less realistic compared to competitors.

Heygen
Heygen is a relatively new platform and is growing fast. It is becoming a solid option in the video avatar business with many interesting options like talking photos, face swap, and generative outfits.
Furthermore, it features 100+ avatars, 400+ video templates, and voice cloning, but some avatars look robotic and artificial.
Pricing starts at $24/15 minutes/month
Heygen Pros and Cons
- Pros:
- Innovative features like talking photos and face swap.
- Large selection of templates and avatars.
- Competitive pricing.
- Cons:

Which is your best Colossyan alternative?
While Colossyan is a solid option, here is my take on its alternatives. In the long run, the best choice depends on your specific needs, so try out the free trials and see for yourself.
- Best for E-Learning: Colossyan (SCORM export, avatar emotions).
- Best for Large Teams: Synthesia (extensive onboarding and polished avatars).
- Best for Multilingual Content: Elai (voice cloning and translations).
- Best for Creative Features: Heygen (talking photos, face swap).
Colossyan review: My verdict
Colossyan stands out in the human avatar video creation space with its feature-rich platform and polished interface. However, Synthesia remains a strong competitor, and both platforms have advantages and limitations compared to other options.
While Colossyan boasts high-quality avatars, lip-syncing, and unique features like avatar gestures, aging, and emotions, its selection is limited to 30 avatars and 10 templates. Additionally, rendering times could be improved for faster workflow.
On the positive side, auto-translation simplifies text conversion and voice-over creation, while the 28-language voice cloning feature offers impressive personalization potential. Colossyan further distinguishes itself with side-view avatars, AI image generation, and seamless ChatGPT integration.
Is it worth trying? Absolutely. Is it the perfect solution for everyone? Not quite. But Colossyan has carved out a compelling niche that's worth your attention – especially if realistic avatar interactions and emotional expression are priorities for your content.
