In this DeepReel review, I will discuss and test the main features of this AI text-to-video creator.
I asked the DeepReel team for a test account but got no answer, so I will try only the features available on the free plan.
DeepReel is an AI video creation platform that allows you to generate videos from text input featuring human avatars. This technology has enormous advantages over traditional video creation, to name a few:
1-You don´t need to hire actors: The platform provides many diverse avatars, and depending on your target audience, it is easy to find one that suits your needs.
2-There are no localization costs: DeepReel supports 30+ languages and voices, and you can make a video in different languages in just minutes.
3-You don´t need to hire expensive locations: Since all the videos are created within the system, you can add background images that fit your audience.
4-No need for expensive gear: You don´t need dedicated gear or specialized technical personnel for creating a video.
This tool can result in significant cost savings compared to traditional video creation, with potential savings of up to 90%. It's important to notice that this it is not a replacement for professional video suites like Camtasia or Filmora. However, it can serve as an excellent complement to your video toolbox.

How to make a video with DeepReel
First, I must sign up for an account with an email and basic data. DeepReel uses a passwordless login system, which means you don´t need to type in a password every time you sign in; instead, you will receive a one-time code in your email inbox. This effective method eliminates friction and liberates you from the hassle of managing a password.
Once I sign up, I enter the main dashboard.
The dashboard is clean and minimalistic, with a helpful button to choose between light and dark modes.
There are five main options:
- Link to video: You can turn blogs and articles into videos by copying the URL with AI avatars.
- File to video: This option converts a file into videos with AI avatars.
- Idea to video: Useful to create a video with AI using only a text prompt.
- Create AI videos: This is the standard choice to make a video from scratch using stock AI avatars.
- Create your avatar: You can create an avatar of yourself, including your voice.
There are no additional options; the left dashboard shows an "assets" button, which takes me to previously created videos.
How to create a video with AI human avatars
Let´s go for the "Create AI avatar video" option to create a video from scratch.
I can choose an avatar on the left; specific avatars have different outfits. I click on Michael-Smart, and a window appears to preview it while speaking a short speech.
My first impression is good: nice graphic quality, voice sounding, and lip-syncing.
In the avatar screen, I can select screen sizes 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, and 9:16. These are helpful options if I need to create a video for social media or share it or embed it on a website.
Next to avatars, I can choose a background from 12 available, although I can upload my own. Once I select the background, I cannot drag and drop the avatar on the screen; its position is fixed in the middle of the screen.
Under the avatar screen, language controls adjust pauses, expressiveness, and speaking style. Only two free previews are available to listen to the speech, a feature every competitor offers for free. When making a video, it is a regular practice to test different scripts with different voices, and this limitation is a significant drawback.
Perhaps paid plans work on a different basis, I don't know.
Suppose I need to create a promo video for a marketing company; I input this text prompt: "Welcome to Super, an innovative company that works daily for customer engagement. Our team makes a difference by offering original solutions for media buying and ads placement at competitive prices. Call us now for a free consultation and take your company to the next level"
Now click on the upper "Generate video" button. This will get me ten credits; go ahead. The video took 4 minutes to create, which is a very good rendering time.
Here is how it looks
Overall quality and lip-syncing are good. However, there were no options for adding additional text, shapes, or video backgrounds.
How to make a video from an AI script with DeepReel
Now, let´s try to make a video on autopilot using the "Idea to video" option to create a video from a text prompt.
Suppose I need a video to promote a language course; I enter this prompt: Write a video script about a French language course called "Total Speech" aimed at office employees who need to learn French for their work. It should be mentioned that it is a short two-month course that will give them basic knowledge of the French language.
I selected the avatar and video type and clicked "Preview draft" button. The platform created a complete video draft with text, music, and graphic assets in 2.5 minutes!
The system created an intro, five scenes, and an outro, and some background music was added. Each scene has its script that can be edited. I can thicken the mark on the right side to create automatic subtitles, a helpful feature that streamlines the creation process.
Under each scene, I can play the script to test how it sounds and make any adjustments. Some scripts provide graphic assets. I can delete them, add new ones, and even generate new images with AI.
On the bottom, I can choose my visual style: Modern, Professional, Wave, and Classic.
I deleted a pair of scenes and let only three scenes because I don´t know if I have enough credits to generate the video. Now, I click on the "Generate video" button, and five minutes later, my video is ready to download.
Check it out
The final video is quite good, with good lip-syncing and auto-generated subtitles.
DeepReel does an excellent job of creating AI videos from a text prompt, and the option to modify the text script adds a lot of value to the platform.
How to make a video from a URL with DeepReel
DeepReel can automatically create a video from an article, a blog post, or a specific URL, handling the script, scenes, graphics, and music.
I go to the "Link to video" option and insert a link from my article titled "How AI avatars work." The system allows the creation of a social media or explainer video, but aspect ratios are greyed out.
The video is set to less than one minute, while other options are unavailable. I don´t know if this limitation is because I signed-up for a free plan or other issue.
Now, I click on the "Preview draft" button. The software created a draft video in 12 minutes. That's okay for a video with an intro, six scenes with pictures, an outro, and background music.
Like in the previous option, I can choose a split screen, no avatar, or a green screen on the bottom side. Let´s go for the green screen with a modern style. Like similar platforms, lip-syncing is not previewable and is generated in the final video.
Now, I click the "Generate Video" button. Ten minutes later, the system still renders the video. I logged in a few hours later, and the video was completed. This may happen because free users don´t have priority rendering, and the platform allocates resources for paid users first.
The video is shown in my assets folder. I can view it, share it via a link, or download it in MP4. Check it out:
The AI effectively summarized the article into a video with relevant scenes and images. The video has good quality, clear voice, and excellent lip-syncing.
DeepReel integrations
DeepReel only integrates with Adobe Express and Canva, limiting its interoperability with other video platforms. While connecting with these platforms allows for video and audio creation within their environments, the absence of integrations with platforms like YouTube, Vimeo, and Descript restricts DeepReel's versatility.
DeepReel Reviews and support
I couldn´t find any reviews on sites like G2 or Trustpilot. This is undoubtedly because DeepReel is new to the market and requires time to grow and attract customers.
Regarding help and support, a button in the left dashboard takes me to a Notion page with (very) limited items. Creating a video with DeepReel is not rocket science, but having more detailed info here would be interesting.
DeepReel Pricing
DeepReel offers six pricing plans plus a free trial
Price schema is based on a credit system:
Video: 10 credits, 450 characters
Audio: 2 credits, 450 characters
In both cases, 450 characters equal 30 seconds.
- Free plan: 22 credits, 30 languages, 30 seconds max script length, SD resolution
- Starter Plan: $5/month ($1.95 when I wrote this review): 66 credits, 3 minutes of video, 30 languages, 30 seconds max video length, and more features.
- Creator Plan: $19/month: 200 credits, 10 min of video, 30 languages, 60 seconds max video length, and more features.
- Creator Plus Plan: $29.25/month: 420 credits, 21 min of video, 30 languages, 120 seconds max video length, and more features.
- Pro Plan: $99/month: 1000 credits, 50 min of video, 30 languages, 5 minutes max video length, and more features.
- Business Plan: $199/month: 2000 credits, 100 min of video, 30 languages, 5 minutes max video length, and more features.
- Enterprise Plan: Custom-tailored plan.
Starting with the Creator Plan, you can buy additional credits at $0,14
From the Creator Plus Plan, you can purchase custom avatars at the following prices:
- Webcam or Mobile Avatar: $149 (currently $29.80)
- Studio Avatar: $499 with up to 4K resolution videos.
How do these prices compare with other options? For example, the Elai.io Basic Plan costs $23/month for 15 minutes of video, with 80+ avatars, interactivity, many pre-made templates, Zapier integration, and a full-featured video editor. You pay $4 more than the Creator DeepReel plan, but also get a more complete AI video creation system.
Remember that previewing audio and generating AI scripts in DeepReel deduct credits from your plan, making the final cost difficult to predict.
DeepReel Pros: What I like
- Ease of use: DeepReel is easy to use, and in my experience, it worked well and had no glitches.
- Lip Syncing: Avatars are very good at lip-syncing, a crucial feature for creating quality videos.
- AI: In my experience, DeepReel´s AI excels at creating complete videos from a text prompt or even from a URL.
DeepReel Cons: What needs improvement
- Webpage: The webpage has a Contact Us button that doesn´t work, and the About Us section shows a video of the two DeepReel cofounders, but it would be nice to see some information about the company. Surfing the web, I could find they raised 1M Pre Seed from two funds in 2022, but no other additional info.
- Integrations: I would like more integrations with video-related platforms like YouTube, Vimeo, and Descript. Zapier integration would be helpful too.
- Templates: At present, the software doesn´t offer templates, a feature almost every competitor has (except StudioNeiro)
- Royalty-free assets: No graphic, video, or sound assets are included in DeepReel. This is a significant drawback because you must go out and search on external sources for specific assets.

DeepReel Review: My Conclusion
DeepReel, while a user-friendly AI platform for creating videos with human avatars, requires further development to compete effectively in the AI video creation market. It is a viable choice for producing quick, acceptable-quality videos, especially for users who prioritize simplicity and speed.
However, the lack of advanced features, limited integrations, absence of royalty-free assets, and the basic video editor might deter users seeking a more comprehensive video creation platform. Despite these limitations, DeepReel shows potential, particularly in its AI capabilities for transforming text prompts into engaging videos.
Furthermore, the AI does an excellent job of turning text prompts into videos, allowing you to edit every scene, including text and images. The process is simple, and I encountered no glitches during testing.
DeepReel is a user-friendly AI platform for creating videos featuring human avatars. I hope developers will continue adding more features and functionality to solidify its position in the AI video creation industry.
